How to play
- Split into teams and get paper and a pen – or a whiteboard.
- Tick the decks you want: Easy for children, Hard for a challenge.
- The player who draws presses Play and looks at the word. Nobody else may see it.
- Draw it – no letters, no numbers, no talking. The team shouts guesses.
- Guessed it? Press Got it and draw the next word. Stuck? Pass.
- When the minute is up, count the words guessed. Then it is the next team’s turn.
The words
- Easy: things a child can draw in ten seconds – a sun, a cat, a boat.
- Medium: a bit of detail – a lighthouse, a hot air balloon, a scarecrow.
- Hard: ideas, not things – gravity, jet lag, time travel. Draw a little story.
- Actions and Animals: for a round with a theme.
Add your own words under Your own words – the names of the class, the things of a school topic, the in-jokes of the family.
Tips for drawing
- Start big and simple: the shape first, the details later.
- Draw the category before the thing: a frame for a film, a globe for a country.
- Break hard words into parts: “hot” and “dog” are two easier pictures.
- Point at the right part when the team is close.
Pictionary is a trademark of Mattel; this is a free word generator for the drawing game of the same idea, played with paper and a pen.
