How a championship works
- The draw. Spin the wheel: every spin draws the next team into a group. Seeded teams go one to each group first, and teams from one club or country can be kept apart.
- The group stage. Everybody plays everybody in their group. Type the scores and each table works itself out: three points for a win, one for a draw, then goal difference and goals scored.
- The knockout. When every group match has a score, the best of each group go through. The bracket is made from the tables: group winners play runners-up of another group, and a group’s winner and runner-up are put in opposite halves, so they can only meet again in the final.
- The final. Type the score of each knockout match, or click the name of whoever went through – on a draw, whoever won on penalties. A match for third place is there too.
Any size
- 4 groups, top two through – the eight-team knockout of a real World Cup: quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.
- 8 groups, top two through – sixteen teams, from the round of 16.
- 3 groups – six go through, and the best two group winners get a bye to the semi-finals.
- One league with the top four through – a play-off after the regular season.
Change the number of groups, who goes through and the points for a win, a draw and a loss in Players and rules. The knockout can be switched off: then it is a league with groups.
For what
- A school or office football, table tennis or FIFA tournament.
- A World Cup or Euro sweepstake with the real teams.
- Board game and quiz nights with more players than one evening allows.
