How to play
- All the cards lie face down. Tap one, then another.
- Same picture? You found a pair – it stays face up.
- Different pictures? They turn back after a moment. Remember where they were.
- Find every pair to win.
One player or two
- One player: find all the pairs in as few moves as you can. The fewest moves for each size are kept as your best.
- Two players: take turns on one phone or computer. Find a pair and you go again; miss and it is the other player’s turn. More pairs wins.
Pictures and sizes
Choose the pictures – animals, food, nature, sports, travel or faces – and how many pairs: 6 for small children, 8 for a quick game, 12 or 18 for a real test of memory.
Why memory games are good for you
- For children: memory games train attention, visual memory and patience – and they are one of the first games small children can win against adults.
- For adults: a few minutes of matching pairs is a workout for short-term memory.
- In the classroom: two teams, one board on the projector, and the whole class remembers together.
Tips
- Turn over cards in order, row by row, so you know which ones you have already seen.
- Say the pictures out loud in your head: “dog top left, cat in the middle”.
- When you turn a new card, first check: have I seen its pair already?
