How to use it
- Press Start, or the space bar on a keyboard.
- Press Lap at the end of each lap, or the L key. The time goes into the table below.
- Press Pause to stop the clock and Go on to carry on from the same time.
- Press Start over to go back to zero.
Laps
Each row shows the time of that lap and the total so far. Once you have two laps or more, the fastest is marked in green and the slowest in red, so you can see at a glance how even your pace was.
What people use it for
- Running and swimming: time every lap and compare them.
- The classroom: experiments, reading speed or a race across the playground.
- Work: time a task, a call, or how long a job really takes.
- Cooking: an egg, a steak, or how long it takes the water to boil.
- Games: how fast can you solve the puzzle?
It keeps running
The time is measured against your device’s clock, not counted step by step. If the phone puts the page to sleep, or you close it and come back, the stopwatch still shows the right time.
On a big screen
Full screen shows only the time, in figures large enough to read across a room or a sports hall. For counting down instead, use one of the timers or the interval timer.
Kept on your device
Everything runs in your browser: no app, no account, nothing sent anywhere. What you change is still here the next time you open the page on this device.
