What time does the clock say?
Every segment of the wheel is a clock face. Press SPIN!, read the hands and pick the time from four answers:
How to read a clock
- The short hand shows the hour. Between two numbers it has not reached the next hour yet: halfway between 3 and 4 is still 3-something.
- The long hand shows the minutes. Each number is five minutes: the 1 is 5, the 3 is 15, the 6 is 30, the 9 is 45.
- At o’clock the long hand points straight up at the 12.
- The little marks between the numbers are single minutes, for the times in between.
Your score
Score, In a row and Best run are kept beside the wheel. Start again puts the score back to zero:
Step by step
O’clock and half past are on the wheel when it opens. Add quarter past and quarter to, then five-minute steps, then any minute at all. The last group asks for the time in words – quarter to nine, twenty past two – the way people say it:
For children learning the clock
Play one group a day, and always say the answer out loud before clicking it. When a child gets a group right five times in a row, add the next one. The hour hand moves between the numbers just like on a real clock, so a quarter to nine really shows the short hand close to the 9.
How to learn them
- Start with one group.
- Open Options and tick Take the ones I got right off the wheel.
- Spin until the wheel is empty – what is left at the end is what you do not know yet.
