What is World Bee Day?
World Bee Day falls on the birthday of Anton Janša, a pioneer of modern beekeeping from Slovenia. It reminds us how much of our food depends on bees and other pollinators.
Ways to mark the day
- Sow wild flowers, even in a pot on the balcony.
- Buy honey from a local beekeeper.
- Avoid garden pesticides, at least where the bees feed.
How the countdown works
The clock counts down to the 20th of May on your own device’s time, so it reaches zero at midnight where you are. When the day is over, it starts again for next year. Full screen puts it on a classroom board or a big screen. To count down to something of your own, enter it under Your own event.
