How to play
- Press Roll the dice. You get a character, a place, something that happens and a twist.
- Tell a story that uses all four, out loud or on paper.
- Pass the phone on. The next player rolls and tells theirs, or carries on the same story.
Ways to play
- One minute: tell the whole story in sixty seconds.
- Round the table: everyone adds one sentence, and rolls a new die when they get stuck.
- Bedtime: let the child roll, and tell the story together.
- The classroom: a writing prompt that is different for every pupil.
- Writers: a way out of a blank page.
Use only some of the dice
Under Which dice, switch off the ones you do not want. Small children may do best with only Who and Where.
Write your own
Under Your own dice, write one die per line: a name, a colon, then the faces with commas between them. Add the characters of a book you are reading, or the words of this week’s lesson.
