Which country has this shape?
Every segment of the wheel is the outline of a country – no flag, no name, no neighbours around it. Press SPIN!, look at the shape and pick the country from four answers:
Italy and Chile are easy. Most of Africa, and the countries of Central Asia, are not – which is exactly why a shape is good practice for a map test.
Your score
Score, In a row and Best run are kept beside the wheel. Start again puts the score back to zero:
One continent at a time
The wheel opens with Europe. Click a continent to add it, or switch Europe off and play another one:
Easier or harder
The wrong answers come from the same continent, so a European shape is asked with other European countries. Under Quiz settings they can come from the whole world instead, which is easier, and there can be two answers or eight:
What the shapes show
The shape of the country itself, the way an atlas draws it: islands close to the coast are there, overseas territories far away are not, and the United States is the lower 48 without Alaska and Hawaii. Countries smaller than about 1000 square kilometres – Monaco, Malta, Singapore – are left out: their outline is a dot.
The country names are always written the way your language writes them, on every language version of this page.
How to learn them
- Start with one group.
- Open Options and tick Take the ones I got right off the wheel.
- Spin until the wheel is empty – what is left at the end is what you do not know yet.
- Then try the same continent in the flag quiz.
