What is World Book Day?
World Book Day is a UNESCO day for reading and for writers. The date was chosen because it is the anniversary of the deaths of Cervantes and Shakespeare.
Ways to mark the day
- Give someone a book. In Catalonia, people exchange books and roses on this day.
- Read to a child, or with one.
- Join a library, or visit a local bookshop.
How the countdown works
The clock counts down to the 23rd of April on your own device’s time, so it reaches zero at midnight where you are. When the day is over, it starts again for next year. Full screen puts it on a classroom board or a big screen. To count down to something of your own, enter it under Your own event.
