What is World Music Day?
World Music Day began in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, and has spread to cities around the world. Musicians of every level play for free in the streets.
Ways to mark the day
- Go out and listen: many cities have free concerts.
- Play something yourself, however badly.
- Share a song that matters to you.
How the countdown works
The clock counts down to the 21st of June on your own device’s time, so it reaches zero at midnight where you are. When the day is over, it starts again for next year. Full screen puts it on a classroom board or a big screen. To count down to something of your own, enter it under Your own event.
