Name the element
The wheel shows chemical symbols. Each spin picks one and asks which element it is, with four answers to choose from. Press SPIN!:
Some are easy – O is oxygen, H hydrogen. Others are the ones everybody gets wrong in a test: Na is sodium, K potassium, Fe iron, W tungsten, Ag silver, Au gold. They are the Latin names, which is why they have to be learnt rather than worked out.
Keeping score
Score, In a row and Best run are under the wheel. A run of twenty says you know the table:
Only the part you are learning
The wheel opens with the alkali and alkaline earth metals, the nonmetals, the halogens and the noble gases – the ones a first chemistry course asks for. Click a group to add the transition metals, the lanthanides or the actinides:
The wrong answers come from the same group by default, so a question about a noble gas offers other noble gases. Change it under Quiz settings:
How to revise with it
- Start with one group and eight answers.
- Tick Take the right ones off the wheel.
- Spin until the wheel is empty – what is left at the end is what you do not know yet.
- Put them all back with Back to the original items and go again tomorrow.
