What is Pi Day?
Pi Day is the 14th of March, written 3/14 in American dates, like the first digits of pi, 3.14. It began at a science museum in San Francisco in 1988, and is loved by math teachers.
Ways to mark the day
- Bake a pie, naturally.
- Hold a contest: who can remember the most digits?
- Measure round things at home, and divide the distance around by the width.
How the countdown works
The clock counts down to the 14th of March on your own device’s time, so it reaches zero at midnight where you are. When the day is over, it starts again for next year. Full screen puts it on a classroom board or a big screen. To count down to something of your own, enter it under Your own event.
