What is World Chess Day?
World Chess Day is the anniversary of the founding of the International Chess Federation, in Paris in 1924.
Ways to mark the day
- Play a game with someone you have never played.
- Teach a child how the pieces move.
- Try the Chess Openings Quiz.
How the countdown works
The clock counts down to the 20th of July on your own device’s time, so it reaches zero at midnight where you are. When the day is over, it starts again for next year. Full screen puts it on a classroom board or a big screen. To count down to something of your own, enter it under Your own event.
